Quick answer
Choose a fencing company that visits or properly assesses your site, recommends a fence for your actual risk and terrain, gives a written quote that lists materials, heights, posts, gates and installation, uses galvanised materials, and can show you real installations. Compare quotes line by line rather than on total price, because the cheapest fence is often the one with fewer posts, thinner wire or no bracing.

Start with what you need the fence to do
Before you call anyone, be clear about the job. It makes quotes easier to compare and stops you being sold the wrong fence.
- Keep people out? Look at clearview, or diamond mesh with razor wire.
- Keep animals in? Look at field fence and barbed wire.
- Mark a boundary on a budget? Look at diamond mesh.
- High-risk site? See mining and site security fencing.
Questions to ask every fencing company
- Will you assess the site? A good company visits or asks for photos, measurements and details of the ground before quoting.
- What exactly is included? Ask for the fence type, height, wire or panel specification, post type and spacing, footings, gates and toppings.
- Are the materials galvanised? Ungalvanised wire and posts rust quickly in Zimbabwe's rainy season.
- Do you make or stock the materials? Companies that manufacture or hold stock can usually plan delivery more reliably.
- Who installs it? Your own team or subcontractors? How long will it take?
- Can I see real installations? Photos of their own work, not stock pictures, or a site you can visit.
- What happens after installation? Ask about inspection at handover and after-sales support.

What a good quote includes
| Item | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Fence type and height | Stated clearly, for example clearview panels or diamond mesh at a given height |
| Length | Metres measured or confirmed from your site |
| Posts | Type, spacing, corner and gate bracing, and footings |
| Toppings | Barbed wire strands, razor wire coils, spikes or electric strands, if any |
| Gates | Number, width, type and whether automation is included |
| Installation | Labour, site clearing, delivery and timeframe |
| Validity | How long the price holds, since steel prices move |
What affects fencing prices in Zimbabwe
- Fence type: diamond mesh and barbed wire are usually the most economical; clearview is a higher investment.
- Length and height: more metres and taller fences mean more material, though longer runs often cost less per metre.
- Posts and bracing: the number of corners and gates has a big effect.
- Ground: rock, slopes and rivers add time and materials.
- Toppings and gates.
- Location: delivery and travel to sites far from Harare.
- Steel prices, which change over time. That is why reliable companies quote from your site rather than a fixed price list.
Red flags
- A price per metre given over the phone with no questions about your site.
- No written quote, or a quote that only shows a total.
- Vague answers about wire thickness, galvanising or post spacing.
- No corner bracing, or line posts spaced far apart to cut the price.
- Large upfront payments with no clear delivery date.
- No real photos of previous work.
